The Boast Squash Junior Academy is designed for players ready to take their squash to the next level. The Academy program is intended to quickly and thoroughly develop squash skills and abilities.
This rapid squash growth is due to the consistency of the curriculum and the nature of at least 3 separate weekly sessions (1 clinic, 1 private lesson and 1 supervised match play session).
Weekly Private Lessons/Clinic & Supervised Match play, plus Junior Ladder
Private Lessons
The Boast Squash Junior Academy includes private lessons with Coach Shoby Gul 4 times per month to work on individual growth and skills specific to each student’s needs. During this personalized weekly instruction, Academy players receive assessments of skill level, strengths, and weaknesses with coaching tailored to meet the player’s specific needs and goals. These sessions allow for rapid squash skill development and an accelerated learning curve. Correct and proper squash technique (which is essential for performance and injury prevention) is instilled and then committed to the student’s muscle memory. These regular sessions also provide Academy juniors with a level of motivation and accountability that propels their game to the next level.
Group Clinics
Academy Clinic sessions are held 4 times per month, and include group training with other students at generally the same skill levels. Overall and squash specific fitness is introduced to provide the foundation for squash development. Clinic drills target specific aspects of the game, such as footwork, shot accuracy, and squash conditioning. These drills accelerate skill development and challenge players to push their limits. Squash tactics are developed during clinic sessions and applied in drills, conditional games and simulated match play to build experience and confidence when facing other players. Clinical drills and exercises that model match situations provide players with a competitive edge and prepares players for real-game scenarios and sharpening their decision-making skills on the court. Finally, clinics offer a unique opportunity to learn from both the coaches and fellow players in a fun and upbeat atmosphere.
Supervised Match Play
Match play sessions are supervised by Coach Shoby and run in an informal round robin format against fellow Academy juniors, with allowances for both instruction and fun. These sessions focus on implementing the techniques and tactics learned in private lessons and clinics with an emphasis on motivation, feedback, correction and fun.
Boast Squash Junior Ladder
Junior Academy members are enrolled in the Boast Squash Junior Ladder where they can challenge other Academy juniors in formal 5 game matches (self-scheduling and scoring) for the right to move up the ladder rankings.
Junior Academy Levels
Novice/Development Level
This preliminary level serves as a baseline introduction for younger or less experienced players. Private lesson and clinic sessions stress the development of basic squash skills and techniques as well as the rules of squash.
Intermediate Level
This level builds on the baseline skills established during Novice/Development training or other prior experience. Higher category and some advanced squash skills and tactics are taught and reinforced during lesson and clinic sessions. These skills and tactics are then applied in games and match play to help develop techniques and strategies for more advanced play.
Advanced Level
The Advanced Level includes advanced squash specific fitness training and further develops the student’s strength, conditioning, speed and agility for squash. Match play sessions will help develop specific techniques and tactics for the high-level competition and advanced squash play. Advanced Level training includes all aspects of superior squash play, both physical and mental.
